Restoration

Restore WordPress Website

A restoration is more than restoring a backup. In the event of an infection, the backup is often older than the problem, meaning you simply install the malicious code again.

I restore the site and make sure nothing old comes back.

The Usual Starting Points

Depending on what is still available, the procedure differs considerably.

A Backup Is Available

The first step is then to check whether it is older than the incident. Only afterwards is it decided whether restoring it is the right approach or whether the existing data will be cleaned.

No Backup Available

This is the normal case and not an obstacle. The core, plugins and themes are restored from clean originals, while your content is rescued from the existing data.

The Backup Is Unusable

Incomplete backups without a database or with incorrect paths are common. What can be salvaged from them becomes clear when they are inspected.

The Site Has Already Been Rebuilt

Even then, something can usually still be salvaged, as long as the old data remains with the host. Content can be reconstructed from Google's cache and archival services.

How the Restoration Works

1

Initial assessment

First, it is determined what is still available: files, database, backups with the host, and backups in plugins. More often remains than the operator suspects.

2

Back Up What Is There

Everything available is copied before anything is changed. Without this step, a failed attempt can make the rest unusable.

3

Rebuild properly

The installation is reassembled from verified originals and populated with your recovered content. No malicious code gets back in during the process.

4

Check and hand over

At the end, all important pages, forms and, if applicable, the checkout process are function-tested.

Frequently asked questions

How much can be recovered without a backup?

As a rule, practically everything stored in the database: posts, pages, orders, customer accounts and settings. It only becomes critical if the database itself has been deleted. In that case, the host’s backups and, with some limitations, archived versions of the site remain.

Ask specifically about the retention period and server-level backups. These are often not visible in the customer portal, but they do exist. I’ll tell you on the phone what you need to ask.

If an infection is the underlying issue, it is included in the flat rate of 280 €. Pure restorations without an infection are charged based on the effort required, and I’ll let you know the range beforehand.

Before you overwrite anything, have it checked briefly.

A call costs you nothing and takes five minutes. If it turns out to be a different problem, I will tell you that too.
