Restoration

Restore WordPress Website

After a technical error or attack, it must first be clarified which files, database versions and backups can be used. In the event of a security incident, a backup is checked for possible tampering before being restored.

I secure the existing state, select a suitable restoration source and then check the website's core functions.

Possible initial situations

The scope of the restoration depends on the condition of the files, database and available backups.

A Backup Is Available

I check the creation date, completeness and technical condition. If there was a previous compromise, I also check whether the backup had already been affected.

There is no complete backup

The WordPress core and available extensions can be restored from original sources. Custom content is transferred from the available data, insofar as it is intact.

The backup is incomplete

Missing database tables, files or incorrect paths are recorded. I then clarify which components can be supplemented from additional sources.

The website has already been rebuilt

If the previous data or a backup is still available at the host, content can be transferred from it. The available scope is checked before starting.

This is how the restoration works

1

Take inventory

I record existing files, databases and backups with the host or in backup solutions.

2

Secure the initial state

Before making changes, I copy the data that is still available and document the technical condition.

3

Restore the website

The installation is rebuilt from verified components and usable content. In the event of a security incident, any tampering found is removed.

4

Check functions

I check important pages, forms and, where applicable, the ordering process. Open points are documented in the handover.

Frequently asked questions

What can be restored without a backup?

Content and settings can be recovered from an intact database. If the database or custom files have been deleted, the possible scope depends on the hoster's backups and other available sources.

Ask support about the retention period, server-side backups and possible restoration points. I can provide you with the technical details required for this.

If the outage is caused by an infection, restoration is included in the fixed price of €280 net for the cleanup. I charge for restoration without an infection based on the effort involved and will provide the cost estimate before starting.
