Website not reachable

WordPress no longer loads

A page that no longer loads either has a technical problem or has been infected. From the outside, both look the same, and they cannot be distinguished in the browser.

I will check directly on the server and tell you within a short time what the problem is.

What you see instead

The error patterns differ, and they already provide an indication of the direction in which the cause lies.

A completely white page

The classic case of an aborted PHP process. The cause is recorded in the server's error log, which is not visible through the browser.

Error 500

The server aborts processing. Common triggers include a faulty .htaccess, a crashed plugin or injected code containing a syntax error.

Error establishing a database connection

Either the login details are no longer correct, or the database server is not responding. Both can also be the result of an intrusion.

A suspension page from the hoster

The provider has shut down the package. In this case, confirmed abuse is almost always involved, and reactivation requires documented cleanup.

How I proceed

1

Checking the logs

I read the error log via SSH or SFTP. It usually contains the specific file and line at which processing stops.

2

Narrowing down the cause

Plugins and the theme are systematically deactivated until the component causing the issue is identified. This is done via the file level and also works without access to the backend.

3

Restore operation

The site will be made accessible again. If malicious code was the cause, the complete cleanup follows immediately.

The complete fine print:

  • All prices are plus 19 % VAT.
  • Orders processed on Saturdays, Sundays or public holidays cost an additional one-time 100 € weekend surcharge.
  • Response and recovery times apply Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Outside these hours, I will respond as quickly as I can, but without a guarantee.
  • The time starts when I have received all the necessary access credentials – not from your first message.
  • I discuss special cases such as multiple sites in one installation, WooCommerce with ongoing orders or multisite with you beforehand and tell you the price before I start.

Frequently asked questions

Is a white page always an attack?

No, it is often a failed update or a plugin conflict. An attack is also possible, especially if injected code contains a syntax error. The only way to distinguish this is through the error logs on the server.

Yes. For troubleshooting, I need server access anyway, not the backend. A WordPress administrator can be restored via the database if necessary.

If the cause turns out to be purely technical, I will charge for the work as agreed and specify the scope beforehand. If there is an infection, the fixed price of €280 applies for the cleanup.

I will get back to you within 4 hours. Restoration is generally completed on the same business day.

An inaccessible site costs revenue every day

A call costs you nothing and takes five minutes. If it turns out to be a different problem, I will tell you that too.
