For the Minderheiten-Kompetenz-Netzwerk, I developed the website for the "Who We Are" project. Its centrepiece is an interactive story map that places stories geographically.

“Who We Are” is a digital stage for indigenous minorities in the German-Danish-Frisian border region and Europe. The aim was to create a platform where users can share their own stories (videos, photos and texts), which are geolocated and can be experienced both digitally and in hybrid form (via QR codes in museums).

I designed and implemented the website’s entire technical infrastructure. The focus was on developing a customised solution that goes far beyond standard CMS functionality:

  • Individuality down to the smallest detail: Development of a custom-made WordPress plugin for managing project requirements.
  • Interactive story map: Implementation of a mapping service to display posts geographically as “pins”, including filtering functions by region, language and category.
  • User-generated content: Development of a secure submission system for posts, including validation and an editorial backend workflow for review and approval.
  • Hybrid interfaces: Integration of a QR code system that directly links physical exhibits with the digital posts.
  • Customer- and user-focused: Hosting setup, performance optimisation (PHP8) and implementation of a modern, accessible and responsive design.

The project was funded by the Federal Ministry of the Interior by resolution of the German Bundestag.
