Security warning

Google is warning about your website

A warning in the search result or a red interstitial page in the browser effectively brings visitor traffic to an immediate halt. It only disappears once the cause has been eliminated and Google has reviewed the page again.

I handle both steps: the cleanup and the review request.

Where the warning appears

The message appears in several places at once because different services use the same database.

In the search result

A notice appears beneath your listing saying that the page may be harmful. This immediately causes the click-through rate to plummet.

As a red interstitial page

Chrome, Firefox and Safari display a warning before loading the page. Some visitors abandon the site for good at this point.

In Search Console

Under Security issues, Google lists example URLs. This list is the best starting point for the cleanup.

In advertising accounts

Google Ads suspends ads for affected domains. As a result, ongoing campaigns stop without further notice.

The way back into the index

1

Analyze example URLs

The addresses listed in Search Console show what type of content is being flagged. This significantly narrows the search.

2

Fully clean up

The malicious code is removed and the entry point is closed. Incomplete cleanup means that the warning will remain after the review.

3

Request a review

I submit the request in Search Console and document what was cleaned up. Usually, the warning is removed after one to three days.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take for the warning to disappear?

After cleanup and submitting the review request, it usually takes one to three days. What matters is that nothing is actually left at the time of the review. If something is still found on the second attempt, the waiting time is significantly longer.

No, setup takes a few minutes and is part of the work. Without it, however, the list of flagged URLs is missing, making the cleanup more time-consuming.

Usually not, provided the warning is removed promptly. However, longer-lasting blocks have a noticeable impact because Google crawls the site less frequently during this time.

As long as the warning remains, no one can access your site

A call costs you nothing and takes five minutes. If it turns out to be a different problem, I will tell you that too.
